Essen ist Sinnbild für Kultur schlechthin. Im Essen werden Natur und Zivilisation vereint. Essen ist eine Lebensnotwendigkeit und ein Luxus, ist Alltag und etwas Besonderes.
Mit dem Spielzeitheft für das Schauspiel Essen (Saison 2010/2011) hat xhoch4 auf 130 Seiten die Verbindungslinien zwischen "Essen" und "Schauspiel" thematisiert und sich dabei die Doppeldeutigkeit im Wort "Essen" zunutze gemacht.
Neben Stückbeschreibungen, Informationen zu den Abonnements etc. befinden sich im Heft Abhandlungen zur Soziologie der Mahlzeit oder die tabellarische Gegenüberstellungen von Verdauungszeiten von Lebensmitteln und den Veradauungsgelegenheiten in Theaterstücken.
Alle Stücke wurden mit aus Lebensmitteln konstruierten Motiven bebildert.
"Zeige mir, was Du isst und ich sage Dir, wer Du bist."
Das Schauspielensemble lässt sich in seinen Portraits nicht nur in die Vita sondern auch auf den Teller blicken. Lieblingsgerichte werden verraten und eine Stickerkollektion mit Fotos der Mahlzeiten kann im Laufe der Spielzeit einem Panini-Heft nicht unähnlich auf die weißen Teller im Spielzeitheft geklebt werden.
Das Fotokonzept wurde gemeinsam mit der Fotografin Sabrina Weniger realisiert.
Und das Wort ward Fleisch.
Online kann das Heft hier durchgeblättert werden.

- "Essen" is the German noun for "food"
The complete concept is based on a wordgame about the saying "Mit Essen spielt man nicht", which is - directly translated - "don´t play with food." This again is a sentence with to possibilities of interpretation:
- Don´t play with food".
- Don´t play with the city of Essen"
The conclusion of the sentence then is: "Für Essen schon".
-> Still it´s worth playing for the city of Essen.
-> Still it´s worth to play for food.
This is, what you should know in the forefront for understanding the concept.

Food is a symbol for culture per se. Food unifies nature and civilisation. Food is indispensable to life, food is luxury, everyday life and something special.
With the season programme for Essen Theatre (season 2010/2011), xhoch4 broaches the issue of the connection between "Essen" (food + city) and "play" on 130 pages. And to be true: we utilised the ambiguousness of the word "Essen".
Besides the depiction of plays, informations about abonnemnts etc. the book contains essays on the sociology of the meal of tabluar comparisons of digestive time and the possibilities to stomach during theatre plays. All plays were illustrated with motives built out of groceries.
"Show me what you eat and I show you who you are." The company provides not only insight to the vitas but also to their plates. Favourite dishes are given away and a sticker collection with photos of the respective dishes can be pasted on the white spots (just like it works with the Panini soccer-stickers).
The photographic concepts was realised toghether with the young photographer Sabrina Weniger.
And the Word became flesh.
